On March 9th over 150 Massachusetts high school student will be at MCLA competing at the annual Mass Science Fair. Considering the national concern about math and science education, this event is a great way to promote science and technology education. Our own Jon McGrath has been selected to be one of the judges for the event. A long time employee at Shine, Jon states “this is a nice opportunity for me to give back, and meet many creative kids”.

Lets GO Pats!!!!

By Greg Shine · Comments (0)

You would think with our location in the northwestern corner of Massachusetts, we would have a fair amount of NY Giant fans. A poll was taken this week during our weekly company meeting and only 1 Giant fan came forward. That would happen to be our beloved Sourcing Manager Tracy. For the next week, Shine Wire is sponsoring “SUPER BOWL SPIRT WEEK” wear your team colors, and let the chirping begin! Tracy was taken hostage this week in the office, not sure if the ransom has been met…..

ipad/itouch Pilot program

By Greg Shine · Comments (0)

Shine Wire’s manufacturing division has recently begun using the Apple itouch and ipad on the manufacturing floor. These devices are being used to communicate with others in the company via voice, with “Facetime” Apple messaging and on the fly email. The staff is also using the camera/video features to document quality issues and for training purposes. The next phase of this pilot program will be to furnish our customers with an Apple device to improve the communication between us. The applications will be endless. Lets say a customer has a design question for us at 8:00am in the morning. At 8:01 we are on facetime with our customer getting the job done….PRONTO.

The backbone of our business, our manufacturing division is a group of innovative and dedicated team members. This team truly embraces customer satisfaction and continuous improvement. They have paused for a moment this week to enjoy each other, eat some pizza and reflect on all that they are grateful for.

Busy December

By Greg Shine · Comments (0)

Shine Wire would like to thank all of our customers and vendors for a successful 2011. A combination of existing and new customer projects made 2011 an exciting year for us.  Looking forward to 2012, we remain optimistic that global issues will be worked on diligently, and the US economy will grow at a rate that we can all start putting more families to work. One benefit to working long hours in December was being able to experience the morning moon outside our facility. That is Mt. Greylock below the moon, a majestic site we are blessed with each day.

A Time For Giving

By Greg Shine · Comments (0)

Shine Wire is excited to announce our giving program this Christmas. As in years past, in lieu gifts and cards to our business partners, we will donate to various groups in the town and cities that our employees reside in. As parts of our philosophy, the recipients need to be in our community and focus on our youth.  All of our employees will have the opportunity to vote on what organizations should be considered.

Barney’s Angels

By Greg Shine · Comments (0)

In 1976 we had the TV series “Charlie’s Angels”. Fast forward to 2011 and we now have “Barney’s Angels”. Barney’s Angels is a bowling team that represents Shine Wire each Thursday night in a women’s bowling league. Word on the street has it that they are currently in 1st place.  When Barney founded Shine Wire in 1984, his passion was the people. His goal was to create jobs. It is employees like Laura M, Laura G, Audra, Kim and Linda that Barney is proud to call family. These girls give it all at work and on the lanes!

Dave-Halloween-Shine

Halloween has always been a fun day at Shine Wire. The employees compete for prize money and bragging privileges. Our three costume categories are:

1. The WOW
2. The scariest
3. Most original

For the first time in company history we had a double winner. Dave Morin won the “WOW” and Most Original for his “Franken Shine” costume. The scariest award went to Kevin Dudziak. Happy Halloween everyone.
